Our daughter was able to start using her bumbo when she was about 2 months old.

As you can see, she is a skinny little thing. She was fine in it for a couple months. She loved being able to sit up and see. We loved that she could be "put" somewhere if we needed to go to the restroom or wash bottles or something (yes, we hauled the bumbo into the restroom with us).

Within a couple of months, however, she was able to push off with her feet and flip herself out of it. The first time we thought it was a fluke, but once she did it again we had to put the bumbo away so that she didn't get hurt. She could have really injured her head by hitting the floor. Here is a picture of Quinn at four months trying to escape the bumbo.

Finally, here is a picture of her at 11 months in it. She found it when she was playing and sat down in it herself. Too funny!

I would definitely recommend the bumbo, but please watch your children carefully in them. They can flip out and get hurt!
